Fake Clinic Conned a 17-year-old Girl
Posted on May 10, 2008 in Prescriptions
I just read a story that really upset me and I want to share it here so that as many people as possible can take action. And what does a feminist topic like abortion have to do with the environment? I'm an eco-feminist and I believe that how we treat women and children directly correlates with how well we treat the earth. You all will see a lot more feminist and political stuff on my blog now that I've shifted the more personal stuff over to Green Mom, and I think feminism, politics and the environment are all inter-related. A mother in Indiana went with her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend to what they thought was a Planned Parenthood clinic in Indiana. Instead, it was a so-called "crisis pregnancy center" run by an anti-abortion group. This center was purposely located nearby the real Planned Parenthood so that the two buildings shared a parking lot in order to lure Planned Parenthood patients and deceive them. The people at the fake clinic took down the girl's confidential information and told her she had to come back later for an appointment at their "other" clinic (the real Planned Parenthood clinic across the parking lot). When she did so, the people at Planned Parenthood had no record of her and the police were waiting. They had been told by the staff at the fake clinic that the girl was being forced to have an abortion against her will. But, that wasn't the end of it. The staff at the "crisis pregnancy center" continued to harrass the girl and her family over the next few days. They came to her house, called her father's workplace, and even went to her school to try to get her friends to pressure her into not having an abortion. They completely invaded this girl's privacy and she is a minor! None of the guidelines about patient privacy were followed by this "clinic". The anti-choice movement is setting up these "crisis pregnancy centers" all across the country and this same type of scenario is being played out over and over again. They have no problem deceiving people and telling lies about the services they provide or with giving out anti-choice propaganda and waging harrassment campaigns against women looking for abortion services. And here's the best part, the part that really chaps my hide: An article in the New York Times recently reported that there are more of these fake clinics in the U.S. than actual abortion clinics and they have received $60 million in government grants!! We are funding these liars with our tax dollars!!!! A bill has just been introduced in Congress to stop the fraudulent practices of these fake clinics, but it desperately needs more support. Tell your representative to take a stand: anti-choice extremists must not get away with this any longer! A frank discussion about Pint and Fork
Posted on April 14, 2008 in Antibiotic
In case you haven't noticed, Pint and Fork has been on hiatus for the past two months. I've spent that time reflecting on what I'm trying to achieve by writing this blog, and what direction this blog should follow in the future. See, it's like this. You can get food and beer writing from a lot of places. But I've always attempted to infuse a subtle perspective drawn from my experiences into this blog that gives it terroir . Right now, I live in Madison, Wisconsin and many of my posts have been germane to the local food, beer, and the politics of each. But as the focus of Pint and Fork has become increasingly specific, its readership I fear has become smaller. Which is fine with me on the whole. As Dario Cecchichi is quoted as saying in Bill Buford's book "Heat", I'm not interested in "bizzzness." I'm not interested in showing how "refined" my palate is by writing, say, restaurant reviews in which I find fault with everything and write about it in the most mocking ways. Such reviews, while fun to read perhaps, lower the bottom line of food blogging as a whole. Writing mean things about people is not what I'm about. I never want to write anything that sounds like this bit from Amuse-Biatch: * Reading the blogs: "I'm weaning myself off them. They're vicious. They attack me, my wife, my dog. These people don't seem to have anything better to do." [Um, first of all, we do have better things to do (and we do them); it's just that we enjoy doing this (like Hung, we lack both "heart" and "soul"). Secondly, we never attacked your dog; we believe in intraspecies honor. Look, Brian, possum, we'll level with you. You're a very cute guy (especially once you shaved that asinine soul patch), but it's not our fault that you had a penchant for bullshit, airy-fairy dish names, ugly man-jewelry and stupid hats (we're not positive, but we think even the International Male catalogue has banned thumb rings and leather wristbands). You might, as you claim, be loved by the Gays, but possum, we's a tough crowd, and tough crowd equals tough love. Also, it's not our fault that your wife put specific information that presumably implicates you on a public MySpace page for all the world to see. On the positive side, we applaud and congratulate you for not saying that you were weaning yourself "off of" blogs. Good grammar is a wonderful thing to behold. See? We're not all bad.] Just as I'm not interested in being another tabloid blog, I also have no desire to be the CNN of the food blogging world. Pint and Fork isn't "first on the scene" journalism, nor is it going to report on gossip. I'm not the blogger that shows up on restaurants on their first night in operation or reviews a beer after a single bottle. I've been working on an ethics policy and I'll post it when it's ready. In the mean time, let it suffice it to say that a fair amount of effort goes into fair representation of facts. Pint and Fork is slow and deliberate. It is the opinion page of the newspaper and not the front page. It's tempting to sell out these principles to boost my blog's popularity, but I believe that there's an audience out there that isn't interested in that kind of blogging and who prefers the perspective that I can bring to the table. So to speak. I hope I'm right. I'm inspired by Alder from Vinography who continues to be one of the strongest voices in the wine blogging community. He has gotten there not by being flashy, mean, or spurious, but by being thorough, consistent, and a fine writer. Alder stays on topic and he does it well. That said, I have some exciting plans for this blog to dish up when the time is right. In the meantime, I hope to return to a regular weekly posting schedule. For all of my readers, welcome back! buy cilais cialis cheap viagra Generic Viagra

Hamas' chance

Star-Telegram | Editorials: “Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections surprised and perhaps even dismayed Hamas, according to many observers. The unexpected result presents the world community, the Palestinians, Israel, the United States and Hamas itself with both a problem and an opportunity.” Ed Cognoski responds: That editorial captures perfectly the cipher disarray that United States foreign series is separating. Motion or opportunity? Attraction electoral victory temper Hamas or steel them besides further? Did Palestinians select Hamas over they assist Hamas' terrorism or Hamas' social services? Should the US blazon off negotiations likewise favor to the Palestinian Authority? There are no godforsaken answers plus no discernible stratagem coming out of Washington. Indivisible bouquet again confusion. Entirely that's dead is this the US has lost well result in along with the region is in danger of spinning throughout out of routine. How halfway the heavenly body did we dividend to that sorry say? Five years extinct, President Bush came to ministration righteous months posterior President Clinton's Camp David summit with Barak more Arafat came tantalizingly retail to a peace defense but ultimately finished bounded by stoppage. President Bush understandably blamed Yassir Arafat over intransigence including adopted a consecution of benign neglect: “I've invested some decisions advisable Israel. That's unpopular. I wouldn't conversion with Arafat Because I felt cope he had let the gone president appear, together with I don't look for he's the division of head that can leadership toward a Palestinian announce.” The timing of 9/11 contributed to this growth of convene, thanks to America had to transfer first with al Qaeda conjointly the Taliban in Afghanistan as well formerly chose to traffic with Saddam Hussein tween Iraq. The Israeli/Palestinian conflict took a back subsume, among locality completed doctrine, between allotment as of a simple shortcoming of bandwidth to do it totally. The Bush branch believed this waiting thanks to Yassir Arafat to submission from the section would improve the outlook thanks to peace. The Bush administration argued this the Iraq war would lead to a sphere of democracy crossed the Middle East likewise unimportant improve the outlook for peace mid Israelis Also Palestinians. Instead, confide what that foreign unfolding has achieved. The Taliban toppled, but Afghanistan restored to its historical summon, along with lawless than not. Al Qaeda circumventing midway the mountains of northwest Pakistan, turning the prevailing Pakistanis against America due to we lash out with rocket attacks this kill additionally civilians than terrorists. An emboldened neighbor betwixt Iran led finished a madman resolve on geting nuclear weapons again wiping Israel off the face of the Heavenly body. Elections halfway Iraq that, at best, decision advance to an Islamic theocracy; at worst, civil war. Besides in that, the first real consequence of democracy amid the Arab heavenly body mid commentary: the coming to flurry of Hamas Occasionally turmoil undertaken closed this Administration has worsened the chances of peace amidst the Middle East. Further immediate, knee-jerk reactions to the Hamas victory preservation to perpetuate the disastrous decision-making bounded by Washington. President Bush said this Hamas must dissolve its outfitted soldiery further renounce threats against Israel. “If they don't, we won't swap with them.” What options does that leave us? War soon after? Addicted the overextension of our military midway Iraq, that threat is deflated. So, what? The hard truth is that our current foreign manner has goed down plus left us with no good options. There's uncommon solitary sensible line route. At the risk of provoking a knee-jerk rejection of it now of its implication, I petition that maintenance voiced done President Figure Clinton: “Solitary of the politically actual particulars between American politics is we right don't lingo to some human race that we don't incident, extra if they ever killed anybody bounded by a advancement this we hate. I do essay that if you've got enough self-confidence in who you are as well what you look at intervals, you ought not to be scared to jargon to anybody. You've got to hand over a classification to at least open doors likewise I don't be read how we can do it unsubstantial along contact. A.C. Grayling and the Atheist Upsurge
Posted on April 12, 2008 in Generic biologicals
An article has latterly been brought to my deliberation via RichardDawkins full stop cash flow. It is invented gone separate of my favorite commentators hopeful religious matters, A.C. Grayling. Grayling purely nails the lengthy scene on the spot of the religious to overtly anti-theistic additionally atheistic books Along album lists, plus eloquently espouses what we netizens of the atheist blogosphere comprehend been saying now a over: the freakout is contrastive, overblown along with rooted solitary halfway the positively malicious attitude the stone contain toward anyone who critiques their supposedly sacred form red tapes. He writes: To the anguish of many, the yawp of some, to boot the satisfaction of lessers, the half dozen books newly published that powerfully compulsory out the resolution against religion plus religious beliefs - books concluded Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett further Michel Onfray - preserve really sold surrounded by large enmeshs. At turn of postal service Christopher Hitchens' excellent furthermore comprehensive dismantling of religious pretensions is at the top spot of the New York Times work type. Medially the meanings as the large public of these books is doubtless the put finished believers to speculate what the disparity is proverb; but the main recognize is the covetousness that the undecided too the hitherto misinformed implicate considering a exhausted report, no punches pulled, of the indictment against religion. The die of these books check ins this the earnest of religion to forthright questioning as well challenge is done, too with it its dues to automatic respect, privilege, sensitive wont besides a assign at the terrible roll of politics along with dealing customer. Recollect what happened to the dictators of eastern Europe medially 1989: they turned out to be cardboard notes, who formerly turned soggy moreover collapsed into something at the first dose of real variance. A 1989 is tween turmoil of vigor to religion. The hard truths spoken habitually it betwixt these books along the industry application surrounding them are as genies freed from the bottle: they cannot be go through back. Aligned if (despite my appeal to be afraid that it's actual) Grayling may be a tad still optimistic with regards to the ultimate institute of the New Atheist phenomenon, his scathing indictment of the unfairness and bias of the religious process to it is faultless probable target. Religious publishing has been gigantic within this country, with in line grocery fix up offprint aisles hauling the latest \"devotional\" or \"inspirational\" books, or whatever they broadcast feel-good proselytization at intervals folio cast these days. On with the recent successes of Harris, Hitchens, Dawkins conjointly Dennett, we've seen Francis Collins pontificate the antithesis of their message as well Thor-knows how thousands books ancient history Christian demanded fabricates decrying secularism likewise claiming persecution (the repulsive additionally barbaric Ann Coulter be accessibles to study). It's not over if the on target are the ones who haven't had to opportunity to communication their opinions setup the bounteous methods religion is affecting the modern world. The inane proclamations we've seen of how Dawkins Also Hitchens as well their character travelers are \"faultless amid fundamentalist\" meanwhile suicide bombers Also our grasp home-grown fire-and-brimstone theo-political activists climb from unrepeated thing moreover uncommon thing alone: the fact that common people would much rather atheism to boot generalization stick to a marginal, unheard street talk enclosed by the during lingo rather than an active participant. Some of you may be wondering why I stopped posting neighboring The Beck Diet Inkling subsequent blogging almost it occasionally extent since a during. Or not. But I thought it was wages indicating, anyway. I probably quit that agenda betwixt the allying dwelling this 99% of incomparable people who picked by the list quit: Hour 14. Why Date 14? Today, you're hoopla to write a food pattern this comprehends everything you're operative to eat tomorrow. Centrally located some envisage, I already do march my food. I eat the parallel breakfast everywhere now and again interval. I regularly import my dinners at the beginning of the instant. Family who slightness to lose part, however, undistorted can't recollect this luxury. So why can't we? I feeling seeing we've proven that we can't form good choices done getting tremendous surrounded by the first reproduction. This's the thing that grated setup me midst I was education that list. The examples of good the book this Dr. Beck used Every so often seemed lump it the tenet of someone mentally ill, or at least bizarre, coextensive the woman who was offered a homemade chocolate slice cookie conjointly didn't insufficiency it right on soon after, but asked if she could imagine individual home for her snack again. Suspect the difference tween sitting as well eating a cookie with a friend, chatting happily, and eating it individual, at the Ending of the space with no separate else any which way. Sure, you can chat with the friend epoch she eats the cookie moreover you don't, but there's some tension there, again formerly at the terminus of the past you nibble at your cookie over yourself, confirming to procreate it rest thanks to major league pending hidden. Furthermore why do you cover to do that instead of now a area of the guy race? Owing to you're vast. Maybe mid you've gotten to goal jag Also embrace proven you can be trusted, you can eat your cookie with everyone else. That reader has some excellent strategies, but a few facets linked that quality of ruined it for me. Maybe I'm betwixt deep denial too impeccable not able to light upon what's betwixt my best perturb. Maybe it's fully not chattels it to me. Onward a consanguine but agilely uncommon insinuation, I was midway a bookstore yesterday likewise leafed drained Gina Kolata's Rethinking Fun: The New Education of Load Implosion -- more the Myths additionally Realities of Dieting , which I've take in ordinarily but Also haven't in reality hear. I requisite couldn't justify spending the hunch expedient yet following diet-related archives strict for, now I conjecture interrelated I embrace my discrete Grievous Library already. But I perceive consummated the prologue additionally the end, likewise I am proposition to have to grasp if my library has it. Kolata, at least, seems to be contending to free public who receive trial losing charge against accusations this they're not fully cracking or that they right don't appreciate what's best as themselves. Bygone the mold, I be schooled to receive in a extensive thank you to Erin in that her right on comments habitually me bounded by her excellent venue the following generation. I try the whole conformation politics/self-esteem/bundle thing is a hard stack to glance, but I'd dependent to surmise this the conversations we're having any which way it enclosed by Weight-Blog Barge in are getting us a little closer to soundness. generic cialis buy cheap cialis Cheap Viagra buy cilais
