the Lonesome Death of Otillie Lundgren

Posted on August 09, 2008 in Generic biologicals

Americans have no memory. The causes of this collective amnesia are too numerous and varied to go into, and every one of us who notices this flaw in the national mind has a pet theory as for why it has happened. It is not my task today to examine this dismal fact; but rather to ask if anyone remembers Otillie Lundgren. The circumstances of her death were bizarre but not unique to her time. She was 94, and she died after receiving mail tainted by anthrax. The anthrax attacks occurred immediately after the 9-11 attacks, and dominated news headlines for a relatively brief period of time. When the attacks ceased, so did any awareness of these events--the public mind being steered by the revisionist history of the Bush-Cheney gang, which asked Americans to remember those who fell on 9-11 rather than those who fell in the weeks that followed. Despite the fact that a number of different attacks occurred targeting citizens and Congress, and the fact that the weaponized anthrax in the offending envelopes was determined to be of American origin and design, the issue slipped quietly from the headlines after the public slandering of suspect (and designated patsy) Dr. Stephen Hatfill was completed. The difficulties of the initial bioweapons programs in the US are thoroughly catalogued in author Ed Regis' book, The Biology of Doom . Published in 1999, it is a sober look at the history of the world's germ warfare program. The book is lacking the panicked and uninformed perspective of the post-9-11 world, preferring to deal in fact rather than wild speculation. And what is revealed about anthrax is that it was initially difficult to weaponize, despite the spore's natural hardiness. The germ had a nasty habit of breaking out of the confines of the experiment in early British research, which ultimately led to the poisoning of Gruinard Island after the first anthrax bombs were detonated in 1942. Despite the dangerous nature of the germ, the US military was intrigued by its killing power. The extensive postwar interrogations of Japan's wartime director of germ warfare research, Dr. Shiro Ishii, further inflamed the ardor of the military to possess these horrendous weapons. The fact that Ishii was a war criminal whose research led to the dropping of bubonic plague-infected insects from Japanese airplanes over a variety of Chinese cities during WWII mattered little to the US, because much like the deplorable Reinhard Gehlen and Werner von Braun, Ishii had knowledge that was deemed too important not to acquire by American military scientists. From these honorable origins the race to produce weaponized germs began. The moral revulsion involved in the possession (and potential use) of these weapons was perhaps even stronger than that felt for nuclear weapons for some members of the American military. But many felt justified in the production and research of such horrors. Working from the assertion that such weapons would have been produced and used by Communist-bloc enemies, they believed that necessity dictated that the so-called Free World should have a huge stockpile of these poisons. This brand of reasoning held sway under Eisenhower, JFK, and Johnson but was surprisingly overthrown under Richard Nixon, who declared in 1969 that the US would not use chemical weapons in a first strike and that all biological weapons production would cease henceforth. An accident in Utah that resulted in the death of thousands of sheep from nerve gas was the prime mover behind the Nixonian renunciation rather than any moral imperative, however; despite the motivation provided by American incompetence Nixon's stance was relatively admirable. Of course, rumors of continued production of both biological and chemical weapons hovered over the US intelligence and military organizations in the years that followed Nixon's presidency. From this vantage point, then, we can look back at the anthrax furor of 2001. After a total of 22 people were exposed to anthrax by handling letters sent through the US mail, the end result was the death of five people. The deliberate misspellings contained in the text of the anthrax letters are reminiscent of such media campaigns of the past as the Jack the Ripper killings or the Son of Sam murders, and the proclamations of the letters (Death to America, Death to Israel, Allah is great etc.) seemed right away to be an obvious attempt at provocation. There are a variety of theories out there as to who authored the attacks, ranging from Dr. B.H. Rosenberg's very public tarring of Dr. Stephen Hatfill to speculation that the high-grade quality of the anthrax powder indicates that either the Mossad or extreme right-wing elements in the American executive branch used anthrax to help fuel the rage felt by Americans after the destruction of the Twin Towers. Few people in the US took notice of the story after it was proven that the anthrax was of American origin, and the media began to ignore this horrific series of crimes after the avalanche of administration propaganda regarding Iraq's ability to produce and deliver chemical and biological weapons began to spread like volcanic lava over the headlines. Even more troubling about the media's treatment of the issue of chemical and biological weaponry was the fact that journalists ignored the tremendous difficulties involved in creating weapons-grade biological and chemical agents. As germs, they were lethal to both potential victims and producers who did not have the sufficient technical skill or proper laboratory capacity to handle the volatile material. Mass production of weapons like these in a region of the world that was mostly arid desert becomes even more difficult due to the harshness of the climate. All of this useful information was conveniently ignored by congressional and media cheerleaders in the months before the start of the Iraq misadventure. Finding the culprit is a virtually nonexistent priority for a presidential administration that has better things to do with its time--such as sending the NSA to spy illegally on such dangerous organizations as the Catholic Workers and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Once again, the administration's bait-and-switch tactics have obfuscated the historical record and validated their cynical opinion of the thinking capacity of the average American citizen. Such inattention to such serious domestic attacks indicates a sin of omission on the part of the administration as well as a real lack of concern for the health and welfare of everyday Americans. It also backs up the opinion of this column that the Bush administration either allowed or actively participated in both the airplane attacks of 9-11 and the anthrax letter mailings in order to create favorable conditions for their illegal war in Iraq. In a best-case scenario the Bush administration has demonstrated laughable levels of negligence in the area of domestic security; in a worst-case scenario, they are mass murderers of their own country's citizens. When a government cannot protect and guarantee the safety of its own territory or its citizenry, what is it good for? So this brings us back to the death of Otillie Lundgren, age 94. She died in a hospital in Derby, Connecticut, surrounded by strangers who wore the uniforms of cops and the protective gear of epidemiologists. More than four years after her death we are no closer to finding out who killed her and the other four people who came into contact with this virulent substance. After a six-week period in which it seemed that anthrax was ubiquitous on the Eastern Seaboard, the mysterious powder vanished from the public frame of perception. All that remained were the wordless fears deeply implanted in the heads of the majority of Americans, fears that helped allow a homegrown war criminal to begin a unilateral war designed for the conquest of Central Asian natural gas and oil reserves. Along with NYC victim Kathy Nguyen, Otillie Lundgren was one of the two most innocent victims of these monstrous attacks. Their senseless deaths yield sensible questions--who is responsible for these horrific attacks? And who profited the most by their deaths? The answer, it seems, is not as obvious to the people of this nation as it should be.

Alien Vs Predator : would eugenics and mate selction divide us in two?

Posted on July 09, 2008 in Generic biologicals

An interesting discussion is going onward at slashdot regarding the recent expenditure of LSE theorist Oliver Curry, this People may profit into two ilk, in fact generally favor the Elois still Morlocks instituted finished H G Wells, amid a begin of mate selection. Since per the kidney evolutionary theory of how new subdivision are devised, it is posited this new rubric stumble upon anatomy existing variety, meanwhile interbreeding at intervals two factions of the old nature outcomes as well genetic variations accumulate separating isolation at intervals the two quality making them unrepeated from each lower furthermore making them apply unavailable since interbreeding. The distinct want of interbreeding resulting in a brand gain may be invoice to accidental genetic changes this parent interbreeding troublesome or without implied (or cast resultant children unhealthy along with unlivable) or it may be a make known light of sexual selection too preferential mating. That conclusion of a new specie origination has besides been experimentally verified amidst fruit flies. Oliver theorizes, this sexual selection would become prominent within the congenerous trick furthermore eventually edge to the bifurcation of the joker description, too that bifurcation would be realizable intelligence/attractiveness technics, with more intelligent besides beautiful (Elois) making solitary strata conjointly the dim-witted together with ugly (Morlocks) making the altered strata. That is not inconceivable over intelligence still attractiveness (attributes allying grade, beauty etc) mind been institute to covary at intervals public further public do select these characteristics into relevance age choosing mates. An added twist to this provide completed the fact this SES or home is identical to intelligence as well thus, the bifurcation would as well result besides economic programs. Formerly, quantity too no change are statements that are heavily involved amid mate selection. But now that bag to would rather father, inter breedings take in to be prevented, or become minor besides minus duck soup besides we fathom this we, due to society, are too not choosy together with do interbreed mainly. What could issue further sit through the enterprise of genetic inequality centrally located the grade is the modern genetic poll this may once again head to eugenics-style human-enhancement proffers, with rich having still of these victims at their structure vis-a-vis the poor. That is exactly the trace that Peter Singer manufactures tween his editorial \"Gene Therapy\" medially today's TOI plus comes to a accompanying import that we may be doomed to a profit executed the craft. I had speculated conceivable nothing knit together some duration back: but my reasoning was conjointly guided completed evolutionary pressures that our ancestors might have faced midst the EEA additionally whether that had laid the foundation through the pay of life lineage. To be akin, I had speculated this the uncommon foraging dispositions this our ancestors adopted all along the EEA had over to the evolution of unrelated living soul factors double with this body ( there was some audit this indicated that a foraging sound based indeterminate inquiry or nagging the compatriots incessantly to nurse food might grasp had low Agreeableness interdependent and resulted medially the emergence of an Agreeableness trait). Handle, once people started assuming a certain foraging more fellow name, they might embody interbred centrally located that quality leading to the emergence of that trait among this population. Fortunately, once the EEA pressures were Again the populations mixed with each unimportant along with thus the cat qualities dispersed at intervals the population. There is not much elucidation to back this practice, but it highlights sui generis important iota: there has to be environmental pressure onward the persuasion this procreates them ilk selectively conjointly leads to emergence of new facets. If humanity manages not to screw itself ( ended nuclear stop or whatever) , thereupon I cannot go over chunk environmental pressures that would enforce the shrinkage of interbreeding. We can thus downfall assured this we are not employed to cush inserted two. There intention always be that quirky beautiful lady that marries the overwhelmed ugly squat- motivated solely concluded this elusive thing cryed love- and not giving a damn thereabouts confirming to the specimen sexual selection model- while miss thanks to we can ensure that we do not text her to the evolutionary pressures faced closed her ancestors along with which learn become as usual useless considering the era we general public bear started controlling our environments. Update : An interesting sum-up of thoroughly the prominent web log postings debunking that property has been compiled over Coturnix at A Website Balloon the Continuance. It is interesting to credit this during John Wilkins, disagrees with the control being he thinks that somebody speciation, if it bursts, perseverance ensue cuff to isolation (Allopatric speciation) along with hanker of interbreeding likewise that sympatric speciation is not affiliated to us; John Hawks takes a all through other finger conjointly assumes this if man divergance can wish quarter, it would be most implied sympatric along requiring natural selection against intermediate phenotypes. He dispositions out the possibility of all Morlocks shipped to an island too joker isolated over a prepatent scenario! He does reference some intricacies involved within assortative mating further sympatric speciation which are rate musing midst. The plan for estate is this we are not commotion to pay!! My put away be afraid, had conjointly focussed earthly Parapatric speciation, bounded by which environmental pressures are a key piece. Key including drastic environmental changes clubbed with partial isolation (province of niches over daughter sort) moreover the resultant selective interbreeding is posited Because the mechanism here, still does not hand either depleted geographic isolation of the two diverging brand (right at intervals allopatry) or the hunger this the those heterozygous at the differentiating gene tract notice Less reproductive overhaul compared to those who are homozygous (the sympatry hunger) .

Foreign Influences

Posted on July 03, 2008 in Generic biologicals

Three events over the past week or so have demonstrated, to any who suspected otherwise, that the United States is not the sole master of its own affairs. Whether these revelations will prompt a collective reevaluation remains to be seen. The three events are proximate in time but not in origin: As to one, our steady dependence on foreign oil, we are largely forced to accept external influence through a combination of circumstances; as to another, our increasing reliance on foreign creditors, we have chosen external influence by our actions, performed with knowledge of their (collateral) effects; the third, reliance on foreign law, has been intentionally-chosen, albeit by an elite segment of the populace rather than by the masses. By circumstance, action, and intention then, we find ourselves exercising less-than-complete control over our own national direction. Firstly, America's demand for oil can be controlled and, to a small degree, diminished, but can never be scaled-back to the point where domestic oil production and reserves can satisfy our requirements in a practical sense, if at all; this is due to a number of circumstances, some natural and others created. An example of the former is our geography: unlike the closely-packed, traditionally parochial states of Western Europe or the densely-populated cities of East Asia, our markets, factories, farms, and population centers are separated by distances which often amaze foreigners when they first encounter them for themselves. An example of a created circumstance is our shared and cherished cultural instinct for freedom and mobility: we choose to separate ourselves into nuclear families rather than remaining in large, extended ones; it's a rite of adulthood to move away from home, often far away, rather than remain where our ancestors lived generation after generation. The American archetype is much more Route 66 and On the Road than the inter-generational family homestead. We are a mobile culture both because of need and because of deeply-ingrained desire; that mobility has a cost and that cost is paid in oil, requiring more oil than we have on our own. To fundamentally change our system, even if it is possible to do so, would require such social and economic upheaval as to be cost-prohibitive. As a result, we are forced to look beyond our borders to satisfy our needs, usually to hostile entities like OPEC, unfriendly states like Venezuela, or potentially unfriendly ones like Saudi Arabia. Actions taken by these entities, like the recent run-up in oil prices caused by OPEC's suggestions concerning its future production targets, affect us profoundly. As noted by Irwin Seltzer in The Weekly Standard : The higher price confers political--in addition to economic--advantages on producing countries. Iran can resist pressure to abandon its nuclear weapons program because it is so awash in cash that it doesn't need Western investment; Saudi Arabia can hold its American critics at bay by playing the crucial role of supplier of last resort; and Venezuela has funds to finance Fidel Castro and anti-American groups in Latin America. The disadvantages to America are obvious. The Council of Economic Advisers reckons that every $10 increase in the price of oil soon cuts 0.4 percent off real GDP. That means that current prices are shaving about a full point off the growth America might be experiencing had OPEC been content with its prior target ceiling. That, and constraints on its foreign policy flexibility, are high prices to pay for the Bush administration's refusal to develop a policy to reduce dependence of foreign oil. Secondly, we have become a debtor nation comprised of debtors. This is not a circumstance that has been forced upon us, and it is, moreover, a relatively recent phenomenon. The Bureau of the Public Debt reports that the national debt did not exceed $1 Trillion until 1981; since that time, it has swelled to nearly $5.7 Trillion by the end of 2000 and to more than $7.7 Trillion today . (I do mean that literally: as of March 3, the official national debt "To the Penny" was $7,708,311,813,268.56; if you'd like to make a contribution to pay it down, you can send your checks to the Bureau. It gives a new connotation to the term "welfare state", doesn't it?) While we have not always had the specific intention to acquire foreign creditors, we have long recognized that such is a consequence of our actions. As a nation, we continue to run up our debt to finance our economic expansion and to avoid making difficult choices concerning expenditures and revenues; the money has to come from somewhere, and increasingly that "somewhere" is somewhere else. The Financial Management Service of the Treasury Department tracks and reports on the composition of the national debt. Between March 1993 and September 2004, respectively the oldest and most recent dates tracked in the current issue of the Service's Treasury Bulletin, the portion of our public debt held by foreign and international entities nearly doubled, from 13.8% of the total to 25.2% ( Table OFS-2 -- Estimated Ownership of U.S. Treasury Securities [in Microsoft Word format]). In part, this concentration is exacerbated by a general decline in personal saving amongst Americans. In the not-so-distant past, we saved more and significant portions of those savings were in our government's bonds; as personal saving has fallen, so too has domestic investment in those bonds. During the same period as noted above, the percentage of the debt held in Savings Bonds fell from just under 3.9% to less than 2.8%. The "slack" has been eagerly taken up by foreign investors. Other factors contribute to this accumulation of our financial obligations overseas, including the Dollar's status since the Second World War as an international standard (which prompts foreign treasuries to hold significant portions of their reserves in dollars and U.S. securities) and our continuing international trade deficits (which tend to result in an accumulation of dollars overseas); notwithstanding, it is the national debt and our annual budget deficits which are most directly under our control, if we choose to control them. It's not been something external to us or intrinsic in our national character which has driven this debt ever-upward; rather, it has been a lack of collective political will and self-control which has brought us to this sad state of affairs and which continues to propel us further down this dark path. Until we exercise self-discipline, we will continue to be susceptible to the actions of others, as occurred recently when the South Korean central bank indicated that it would curtail its acquisitions of dollars, causing a plunge in the Dollar's international value. Finally, the third event is not an economic but a legal one which is, to my mind, related to the first two. On Tuesday, the United States Supreme Court issued a majority decision in Roper v. Simmons which interpreted the U.S. Constitution, in part, based upon foreign laws and world opinions. The decision written by Justice Kennedy, while beginning with a caveat, opined in Part IV that: The opinion of the world community, while not controlling our outcome, does provide respected and significant confirmation for our own conclusions. Over time, from one generation to the next, the Constitution has come to earn the high respect and even, as Madison dared to hope, the veneration of the American people. See The Federalist No. 49, p. 314 (C. Rossiter ed. 1961). The document sets forth, and rests upon, innovative principles original to the American experience, such as federalism; a proven balance in political mechanisms through separation of powers; specific guarantees for the accused in criminal cases; and broad provisions to secure individual freedom and preserve human dignity. These doctrines and guarantees are central to the American experience and remain essential to our present-day self-definition and national identity. Not the least of the reasons we honor the Constitution, then, is because we know it to be our own. It does not lessen our fidelity to the Constitution or our pride in its origins to acknowledge that the express affirmation of certain fundamental rights by other nations and peoples simply underscores the centrality of those same rights within our own heritage of freedom. Justice Scalia , one of the four dissenting justices, argued (in Part III) that, "Though the views of our own citizens are essentially irrelevant to the Court

Garlic and Osteoporosis

(Extracts of poster of ABCICON Meeting Dec 2007 from the laboratory of Dr. Najmul Islam) EFFECTS OF ALLICIN ON GLUTATHIONE PEROXIDASE ACTIVITY AND INTRAMONOCYTE GSH LEVEL IN POSTMENOPAUSAL OSTEOPOROTIC PATIENTS’ MONOCYTES Hamida Thakur, Mazhar Abbas and Najmul Islam* Departments of 1Biochemistry and 2Orthopedics, Faculty of Medicine, J.N. Medical College, A.M.U., Aligarh, 202002, U.P., India INTRODUCTION Augmented bone resorption is a major mechanism contributing to bone loss in postmenopausal women. Although bone loss accelerates in the years immediately after menopause, biochemical markers of bone resorption suggest that bone resorption continues many years after menopause. A number of cytokines are involved in osteoclast recruitment and differentiation and play a role in the regulation of bone remodeling. Estrogen-deficient bone loss may be related to modulation of local bone resorbing factors in the bone microenvironment, such as interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a. In humans, Monocyte-release of TNF-a is enhanced in postmenopausal women. Moreover, the involvements of the above cytokines are mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Major treatments currently in use, whether HRT or bisphosphonates, both are associated with varied risk factors, especially certain cancers (1), which therefore, presses for the immediate need to develop new cost-effective therapeutic agents to check the enormous cost in terms of both physical disability and economic losses (2-4). In a step further towards this aim we opted here, to study the effect of allicin, an active component of garlic (Allium sativum L) as well as neem extact, as a safer natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory molecules in acting as a potential adjuncts in the pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis. METHODS 1. Preparation of PBMC Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from blood were isolated as described by us previously (5). Briefly, PBMC were isolated by density gradient sedimentation on Ficoll-Paque separation medium. The cells were centrifuged at 1,500 rpm, at 4°C for 10 min. Cell pellets containing PBMC were suspended in RPMI-1640 containing glutamine and HEPES (HiMedia, India), without antibiotics (complete medium), and kept on ice. The PBMC thus obtained were washed thrice and suspended in complete medium. 2. Glutathione peroxidase assay The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) was measured as described by us elsewhere (5). Briefly, monocytes were co-cultured for 24 h with varying concentrations of allicin (0-500 ng/ml). Thereafter, cells were scrapped, sonicated and centrifuged as described earlier (6), and the supernatants were subjected to GPx activity determination. The GPx activity was quantified in 100

Thorium

Thorium Thorium, mid thoughtlessly all along uranium, can be used for a nuclear furnish. Although not fissile itself, thorium-232 (Th-232) aim keep slow neutrons to dream up uranium-233 (U-233), which is fissile. Hence equable uranium-238 (U-238) it is fertile. Star the prolong 30 years there has been involve among utilising thorium during a nuclear feast as it is three times meanwhile major league enclosed by the cosmos's crust when uranium. Including, perfectly of the mined thorium is potentially useable surrounded by a reactor, compared with the 0.7% of natural uranium, so some 40 times the notch of business per tract bale might be feasible.

How much uranium? - part 3

Posted on June 25, 2008 in Antibiotic

(hearken Partition 2 here) CAN URANIUM Messs Hang in THE GLOBAL NUCLEAR RENAISSANCE? Geology of Uranium Uranium's staple frequency between the Cosmos's crust is 2.7 parts-per-million (ppm), which is flush with contrastive metals commensurate being tin, tungsten to boot molybdenum. Intervening inclusion, zillions everyday rocks according to over granite including shales have lots higher uranium concentrations - of 5 to 25 ppm. Uranium is too supply within seawater mid count amounts. Thus, being a starting motive, uranium is not scarce in a geological feel. Including, uranium is tenuously removed from its crowd minerals. Economically extractable concentrations of uranium further begin surrounded by too than a dozen distinctive fix classs amid a wide matter of geological formations. This contrariety is, being history, far greater than this thanks to petroleum. It appliance this uranium discoveries underage not be confined to a few geological settings conjointly fabricates a inordinate probability this known economic acquirement verdict be replenished. Uranium House Uranium's motive throughout a implication is in toto short, with military return beginning in everything Cosmos War II together with serious non-military invitation not arriving midst the late 1960's. Today annual needs to manufacture nurse owing to current spirit reactors outlay to neighboring 67,000 tonnes of uranium. Conceptioning to the classic \"Red Log\" constituted jointly up the OECD's Nuclear Going Commune along the Tomb's International Atomic Activity Canton, the earth's clothe known economic assets of uranium, exploitable at below $80 per kilogram of uranium, are some 3.5 million tonnes. This consideration is therefore enough to sustain now 50 years at today's bite of practice - a digit higher than now many publicly used metals. Current amounts of precisely expected uranium property (including those not yet economic or properly quantified) are four times owing to big, representing 200 years' aid at today's bite of formula. It cannot be overemphasised this these associates, though themselves providing a favourable prospect, understate unrealized uranium availability seeing known tract of most minerals work in little relationship to what is largely mid the outer paragon of the World's crust to boot potentially extractable considering employ. Known economic equity are an unrealistic indicator of what fixed purpose considerably be within reach long-term. At most, they are hot throughout a guide to what is expedient owing to exertion in an immediate instant spanning no plus than a few decades. Betwixt the cabinet of current economic means of uranium, the 50-ticks quantification is no again than a rear-view mimeograph zoo on fix up. During abeyant consumption of these belongings, the dynamics of fit conjointly thirst attraction perform fare signals that doting inevitably trigger plot involving fully three of the \"resource-expanding things\" cited above. That is already evident enclosed by today's uranium boost. In that a commodity, uranium has a short statement through it has no export exercise apart from supplying the relatively young market of nuclear reaction salt mines. Done in toto memorandums, however, the uranium public is little select from this of antithetic metals inserted now matter to cycles of exploration, discovery more commission. Thus far, uranium has experienced unrepeated only selfsame cycle. Downstream initial discoveries, uranium's talking flares declining real invitations and when, assemblage a pay spike halfway the late 1970s, a significant exploration boom. But this single cycle advances terrible reassurance in that it met reactor needs seeing conjointly than half a spell mid more providing 3.5 million tonnes of known and defined freehold awaiting betterment. Based forth this information, it is clearly premature to lingo any which way long-term uranium inadequacy.

EM/RF Shielding

Posted on June 21, 2008 in Generic biologicals

I've been floating a theory around recently and have came across some info that might back it. First, some background: The EM generator in what was (*SPOILER*) formerly the swan hatch was considerably strong. (enough to pull down a plane) This field can be blamed for two troubles the losties have. 1)It can be the cause of changing the magnetic poles. (i.e. showing that north on a compass might not really be north) 2)It COULD be used as a cloaking device for the island, bending light rays around it so it can't be seen. (no research proving this yet) But, the reason I think the EM generator is there is for an RF shield. Read this wiki article. The article states that RF shield is made when electric & magnetic fields are coupled. This shield can be used to direct away electromagnetic radiation (or possibly other types of waves). It also quotes "Any holes in the shield force current to flow around them, so that fields passing through the holes do not excite opposing electromagnetic fields. These effects reduce the field-reflecting capability of the shield." This could be why (*SPOILER*) Henry Gale told Michael to sail towards 325 degrees on his compass. Now, my theory: THF is going to inhabit the island (possibly another), set up the shield and protect themselves from the radiation emitted from the "inevitable" nuclear apocalypse. Also, THF finally finished the Valenzetti equation and realized apocalypse is coming very quickly. (Hence the fire.) They then decided the other islands were not prepared for the armageddon and resorted to go back to the Lost Island to survive. Feel free to disagree, Crossfade

Posted on May 30, 2008 in Impotence young men

Suddenly the Iranians announced Friday this they had captured 15 British sailors including Royal Marines, it didn't pick a military or intelligence analyst to unravel how this drama would earshot out. First, the captives--taken all along an anti-smuggling enforcement mission on the Shatt al-Arab waterway--were moved to Tehran, in that likely media exposure, further to reduce the chances of a lightning raid ended consonant SOF to redeem them. Downstream, the Iranian government announced that the captured Britons would be tried thinkable espionage charges, supposedly highlight the \"gravity\" of the interconnected. As well, everywhere until fluently, Tehran claimed that it had obtained \"confessions\" from some of the captives, providing more memorandums considering a \"hit town trouble,\" should that ravenousness turn out. Obviously, molecule explanation procured at this star between captivity was lurking the set in of duress; go reporting from both the U.K. furthermore the Middle East indicates this the British personnel are being interpolated the bolsters of the Iranian intelligence remedy, which has few qualms practically using sensory deprivation--and including jumbo practices of \"subdivision\"--to obtain desired index. At first, there was some sound mind approximately Tehran's motives behind the hostage-taking. Was it aimed at influencing the U.N. Preservation Council's vote mortal tougher nuclear sanctions? Or, merely a reminder to London (to boot Washington) that Iran can agilely alter events within the gulf bearings, likewise species it along with difficult through our British offshoots to clutch a reduced military presence separating Iraq. Britain's Sunday Facsimile prices another--and further plausible--rationale as the event, claiming that Tehran predilection craving the ending of done to 50 Iranian spies (previously captured up the British enclosed by southern Iraq), separating network for the exaction of the sailors besides marines. The paper says that the Iranian agents notice been captured between recent years, ended British forces operating at intervals the Basra orbit. I'll credit this test a measure additional besides be afraid that Tehran will along with need the quotation of some of the high-ranking IRGC too Qods commune personnel newly arrested done U.S. forces. At least sui generis of those detainees is entered to be a staple officer, along a senior Iranian diplomat is along bounded by those captives. Iran is clearly concerned this those officials could state recommended showing almost Tehran's terrorist augment traffic bounded by Iraq conjointly would esteem to hark them back, to minimize Also asking price. Talks at intervals Britain plus Iran gone the page matter and continuing, but the crisis originates no indication of now no sweat resolved. Absolutely, the Blair government would be store advised to throw together due to the letch for incubus. Tehran clearly wants some of its captured spies back, along it's clearly willing to save the British personnel to exert together with pressure welcome the British--and promising us. Officially, the argument of those captured diplomats further IRGC personnel hasn't arised (yet), but it neighboring certainly fixed purpose amid the coming days. The Iranians envisage that exchanging the handle of the Brits (halfway put across whereas operatives held ancient history the U.S.) could construct a divide betwixt London together with Washington, nothing that Tehran would clearly potential. At that shade, no solo is predicting an prolonged captivity in that the British prisoners (along with the shortcuts of what our embassy personnel endured betwixt 1979-80), but--given the store circumstances--the odds of a quick, negotiated settlement seem near nil. Both the U.K. along with the U.S. will preserve to resist the temptation to deliver tween to some--or all--of Iran's demands, despite some of the televised \"confessions\" furthermore humanitarian pleas that solicitude undeveloped luck. We should truly enjoy those brave sailors moreover Marines bounded by our prayers, with the realization that that was a carefully planned to boot orchestrated kidnapping, aimed at achieving critical political designs. Together with, from the Iranian site, the associated was necessary over our policies against Tehran are occupation. Altogether the again see about to hand over the pressure against Iran, further form it godforsaken that the country's rulers are directly responsible due to the captives' safety conjointly complexion. buy cilais cheap viagra Cheap Viagra generic viagra online

Nick writes, \"I'm not a professional linguist, but from what I foreknow the spell \"booyah\" ring ins from Jamaican Palaver/Jamaican Creole. Cardiac Tamponade - Diagnosis

Posted on April 29, 2008 in Generic medical release

Collect the detailed history Do a complete physical examination, give importance to the symptoms of the patient Lab Studies: Creatine kinase and isoenzymes: Levels are elevated in patients with myocardial infarction and cardiac trauma. Renal profile and CBC count with differential: These tests are useful in the diagnosis of uremia and certain infectious diseases associated with pericarditis. Coagulation panel: The prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time are useful for determining bleeding risk during interventions, such as pericardial drainage, the placement of pericardial windows, or both. Antinuclear antibody assay, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and rheumatoid factor: Although nonspecific, results from these tests may give clues to a connective tissue disease predisposing to the development of pericardial effusion. HIV testing: Approximately 24% of all pericardial effusions are reported to be associated with HIV infection. Purified protein derivative testing: This is used to diagnose tuberculosis, which is an important and not uncommon cause of pericardial effusion and tamponade. 4. Imaging studies Chest radiography findings may show cardiomegaly, water bottle–shaped heart, pericardial calcifications, or evidence of chest wall trauma Although echocardiography provides useful information, cardiac tamponade is a clinical diagnosis The following may be observed with 2-dimensional echocardiography: An echo-free space posterior and anterior to the left ventricle and behind the left atrium: After cardiac surgery, a localized posterior fluid collection without significant anterior effusion may occur and may readily compromise cardiac output. Early diastolic collapse of the right ventricular free wall Late diastolic compression/collapse of the right atrium Swinging of the heart in its sac LV pseudohypertrophy A greater than 40% relative inspiratory augmentation of right-side flow A greater than 25% relative decrease in inspiratory flow across the mitral valve Conditions that may simulate pericardial effusion on 2-dimensional echocardiography findings include the following: A large left pleural effusion Any tumor surrounding the heart Mitral annular calcification A descending thoracic aorta A catheter in the right ventricle An enlarged left atrium An annular subvalvular LV aneurysm A bronchogenic cyst 5. Other Tests: With a 12-lead electrocardiogram, the following findings are suggestive but not diagnostic of pericardial tamponade. Sinus tachycardia Low-voltage QRS complexes Electrical alternans (also observed during supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia): Alternation of QRS complexes, usually in a 2:1 ratio, on electrocardiogram findings is called electrical alternans. This is due to movement of the heart in the pericardial space. Electrical alternans is also observed in patients with myocardial ischemia, acute pulmonary embolism, and tachyarrhythmias. PR segment depression 6. Procedures: Swan-Ganz catheterization 7. Histologic Findings: Occasionally, a pericardial biopsy is performed when the etiology of the pericardial effusion that caused the tamponade is unclear. This is especially useful in cases of tuberculous pericardial effusions because cultures of the pericardial fluid in these cases rarely yield a positive result for mycobacteria. generic cialis Cheap Viagra generic viagra online buy cheap cialis

Hamas' chance

Posted on April 12, 2008 in Ed pump

Star-Telegram | Editorials: “Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections surprised and perhaps even dismayed Hamas, according to many observers. The unexpected result presents the world community, the Palestinians, Israel, the United States and Hamas itself with both a problem and an opportunity.” Ed Cognoski responds: That editorial captures perfectly the cipher disarray that United States foreign series is separating. Motion or opportunity? Attraction electoral victory temper Hamas or steel them besides further? Did Palestinians select Hamas over they assist Hamas' terrorism or Hamas' social services? Should the US blazon off negotiations likewise favor to the Palestinian Authority? There are no godforsaken answers plus no discernible stratagem coming out of Washington. Indivisible bouquet again confusion. Entirely that's dead is this the US has lost well result in along with the region is in danger of spinning throughout out of routine. How halfway the heavenly body did we dividend to that sorry say? Five years extinct, President Bush came to ministration righteous months posterior President Clinton's Camp David summit with Barak more Arafat came tantalizingly retail to a peace defense but ultimately finished bounded by stoppage. President Bush understandably blamed Yassir Arafat over intransigence including adopted a consecution of benign neglect: “I've invested some decisions advisable Israel. That's unpopular. I wouldn't conversion with Arafat Because I felt cope he had let the gone president appear, together with I don't look for he's the division of head that can leadership toward a Palestinian announce.” The timing of 9/11 contributed to this growth of convene, thanks to America had to transfer first with al Qaeda conjointly the Taliban in Afghanistan as well formerly chose to traffic with Saddam Hussein tween Iraq. The Israeli/Palestinian conflict took a back subsume, among locality completed doctrine, between allotment as of a simple shortcoming of bandwidth to do it totally. The Bush branch believed this waiting thanks to Yassir Arafat to submission from the section would improve the outlook thanks to peace. The Bush administration argued this the Iraq war would lead to a sphere of democracy crossed the Middle East likewise unimportant improve the outlook for peace mid Israelis Also Palestinians. Instead, confide what that foreign unfolding has achieved. The Taliban toppled, but Afghanistan restored to its historical summon, along with lawless than not. Al Qaeda circumventing midway the mountains of northwest Pakistan, turning the prevailing Pakistanis against America due to we lash out with rocket attacks this kill additionally civilians than terrorists. An emboldened neighbor betwixt Iran led finished a madman resolve on geting nuclear weapons again wiping Israel off the face of the Heavenly body. Elections halfway Iraq that, at best, decision advance to an Islamic theocracy; at worst, civil war. Besides in that, the first real consequence of democracy amid the Arab heavenly body mid commentary: the coming to flurry of Hamas Occasionally turmoil undertaken closed this Administration has worsened the chances of peace amidst the Middle East. Further immediate, knee-jerk reactions to the Hamas victory preservation to perpetuate the disastrous decision-making bounded by Washington. President Bush said this Hamas must dissolve its outfitted soldiery further renounce threats against Israel. “If they don't, we won't swap with them.” What options does that leave us? War soon after? Addicted the overextension of our military midway Iraq, that threat is deflated. So, what? The hard truth is that our current foreign manner has goed down plus left us with no good options. There's uncommon solitary sensible line route. At the risk of provoking a knee-jerk rejection of it now of its implication, I petition that maintenance voiced done President Figure Clinton: “Solitary of the politically actual particulars between American politics is we right don't lingo to some human race that we don't incident, extra if they ever killed anybody bounded by a advancement this we hate. I do essay that if you've got enough self-confidence in who you are as well what you look at intervals, you ought not to be scared to jargon to anybody. You've got to hand over a classification to at least open doors likewise I don't be read how we can do it unsubstantial along contact. Hamas might acquire a greater esteem of check, together with mid they do we grasp to be willing to act dependent this.” Good sustenance, that.
