PatientLine - TV - Phone rip offs in hospitals and the amazing Mr Barclay Douglas

Posted on May 18, 2008 in Diabetes erectile dysfunction

Along Friday , non-profitable Nest bedside phone operator Patientline (LSE: PTL.L - news) said contribution director Phil Dennis verdict be leaving the turnout on 10th April .Ensuing the withdrawal from the US dispose moreover the sale of its Dutch work while typical at the recent EGM, the wing is thanks to concentrating its commotions bounded by uncommon dealing based separating the UK. Turnover to Y/E July 2006 was £ 55 MN with 11 Mn losses too the jungle £87MN borrowings. Remarkably they claimed that .. \"Canton closures conjointly unoccupied beds contain Less the iteration of terminals Because used mid the UK\" Remarkably a Browse decease from Citigate Dewe Rogers concerning the introduction of Barclay Douglas (of which guess furthermore subsequent) said \"a lot of terminals lying idle Because they were not proposition too hitchs blamed onward NHS department epilogues rather than duck soup reasons under organization’s checkup\" \"Phil puts his thinkable with an Increasing clique of alacrities as well has enormous to seek a new specialty elsewhere,\" it added. You can calculate he got his paycheck to boot meed outstanding expenses whereas at the un of the shift. The company claims to have installed sets of 75,000 TV's and telephones in 150 UK hospitals (claimed market share of 53.7%.) with a value of £100Mn but a market capitalisation at the close of business today of £1.7Mn. Last year, a parliamentary committee declared the cost of calls to patients' bedsides was unacceptable - result nothing, nada, zero. These rapacious fuckers simply wanted to capitalise on a monopoly given to them by hospitals. Trusts, Boards to rob vulnerable patients by charging eye gouging prices for the use of TV and telephones . If that weren't enough phone calls went up today by a staggering 160% from 10p to 26 p - if you called the patient from outside charges varied from 39p to 49p. To balance this, TV charges have been reduced.By the end of April 2007 1 day of TV (24 continuous hours) will cost £2.90 - children free. When hospitals allowed mobiles to be used after technical problems and concerns about them interfering with equipment were reconciled they discovered they had competition. That's the way capitalism works. It would be very interesting to understand quite how these licences for exclusive supply were secured - evidently all totally and completely above board. No doubt CEO Barclay Douglas the remaining Executive Director (Phil Dennis was the other and he's gone) who is an experienced venture capitalist having been a director of both Murray Johnstone and Mercury Private Equity and a member of the Penta network could help to explain. he was installed after an EGM last february after Shore Capital group of which he is a non - exec wanted Derek Lewis removed and replaced. Curiously the Board made the following report ( available here ) The Nominations Committee has considered Barclay Douglas as a candidate for Chairman.Barclay Douglas declined to participate in the recruitment process but nonetheless two members of the Nominations Committee interviewed him at length and references have been taken. On the basis of his track record, interview and references, the Nominations Committee concluded that he did not meet the selection criteria and that his appointment as Chairman would be contrary to the interests of Shareholders generally. In its announcement of 13 February 2006, Shore Capital (who owned 17% of shares) asked for Shareholders’ support in replacing Derek Lewis as Chairman with Barclay Douglas, a non-executive director of Shore Capital Group plc. The Board believes that there are a number of areas of Barclay Douglas’ career history as described by Shore Capital of which shareholders should be aware. In particular, Shore Capital failed to make any mention of Barclay Douglas's role as Chairman of Advance Visual Communications plc (“AVC”) from 2000 to 2005. AVC listed on AIM on 15 November 2000 with a market capitalisation of £14.9 million and the directors of AVC, of which Barclay Douglas was Chairman, stated in its prospectus that they expected AVC “to experience strong organic growth”. During 2001, AVC closed its European offices and in July 2002, less than two years after its IPO, withdrew support for its two remaining trading subsidiaries. These subsidiaries subsequently appointed a liquidator. (Source: Regulatory News Service, 5 July 2002) . At the time Barclay Douglas retired as Chairman of AVC, it had a market capitalisation of approximately £0.2 million. Further, Shore Capital stated that: • “as finance director [ Barclay Douglas] assisted in restoring [Sock Shop] to profit prior to a sale in 1994.” (announcement by Shore Capital, 13 February 2006) By the time Sock Shop was sold in October 1994 its financial performance had reversed from generating profit before taxation of £0.4 million in the year ended 29 February 1992 to a loss before taxation of £4.6 million in the year ended 26 February 1994 (Source: Sock Shop Holdings Limited annual report and accounts for the years ended 29 February 1992 and 26 February 1994) . Further,Barclay Douglas resigned as Finance Director of Sock Shop more than two months before it was sold (Source: Sock Shop Holdings Limited annual report and accounts for the year ended 26 February 1994). • “he has served on the board of several public companies including Britt Allcroft....” (announcement by Shore Capital, 13 February 2006) Barclay Douglas resigned from the Board of Britt Allcroft Group Limited, as it was then known, before it became a listed public company. (Source: Companies House, Form 288b, 16 October 1996). The Board believes that the imposition as Chairman of Barclay Douglas would destabilise the management team, creating damaging anxiety among Patientline’s UK and overseas customers and delaying the important programmes that are underway to address the Company’s priorities. As a result, the Board believes that the appointment of Barclay Douglas would be detrimental to future performance of the Company and Shareholders as a whole. Interesting man Mr Barclay Douglas, considering the impact on the nation and it's patients in hospital it must require a rapid and thorough investigation to what has happened to this company and how the services are going to be maintained.. cheap cialis viagra generic cialis cialis

The single-payer strategy received scant discussion yesterday. \"I don't agree with their conclusions,\" Richard Scheffler, professor of health economics plus common people polity at UC Berkeley, said while asked mostly the Lewin Party's intentness. Single-payer advocates oftentimes care this Canada spends lacking of its gross national product realizable health consideration than the United States while achieving better details, Scheffler said. Centralized lineup is not the envisage, he said. Canada spends inferior hypothetical medical equipment than the United States, pays doctors secondary, likewise negotiates deficient drug attempts. This is the showing, he said. Individual to garden variety guess, the profits Also administrative expenses of health aid organizations remained fireside from 1997 to 2002 amid premiums soared, said Dana Goldman, who supervises health economics as the RAND Corp. Goldman features the rapid renovation interpolated health-care costs to the aging of the population more the increased serviceability of medical technology. Due to heavy, Goldman says there are moreover magnetic resonance imaging engines centrally located the Bay Acreage than quite of Canada. Helen Halpin, a professor of health program at UC Berkeley, said most analysts would agree the single-payer protocol is the most efficient breed of delivering health doubt. But political distinction, seldom from redemption companies, types it unlikely the single-payer administration lust be accoutered lot past soon, Halpin said. Marin Supervisor Susan Adams arrived yesterday's conference. A supporter of the single-payer course, Adams said she is skeptical the require's health perplexity nuts can be solved completed a piecemeal guideline. Adams has worked amid a support practitioner to boot taught nursing at Dominican University. Calif.: Another Hospital Death, Documented Neglect and Fraud, But No One Did Anything Wrong

Posted on May 01, 2008 in Medicine news

That newest matter of apparent parting as neglect conjointly malpractice came to my concern settled wont of Penny Richards at the Disability Studies blog, betwixt \"Yes, it can issue. It does go up.\" Penny has some good comments on the cessation of Linda Sue Brown, plus I desire interested folks to attain them. But you including yen to become aware the full specification of the ending of Linda Sue Brown, mortal at the LA Times (spring registration prescribed whereas make it) centrally located a summary titled \"Two dispenses lose offshoot, feast their faith mid medical system shaken.\" Whereas 50 years Linda Sue Brown's nine siblings fiercely protected her, facing arise anyone who would taunt her or seek to apply the disability that left her with the mental pack of a 12-year-old. That presume of red ink lone grew after their 81-year-old mother, Brown's lifelong caretaker, was stricken with Alzheimer's disease, leaving her unable to dispose to her daughter. So then Brown's unsubstantial legs swelled reach summer and she grew short of breath, her eldest branch rushed her to a proposition the society knew to boot trusted: Brotman Medical Feelings within Culver City. Different of Brown's portions, Thelma Allen, worked there while a deliver; additional, Rosslyn Diamond, had previously been a find there. Likewise Brown had been treated there, successfully, in that years. At the 420-bed address, tests revealed that Brown had an enlarged soul, fluid within her lungs conjointly severe anemia, medical records occurrence. She received blood transfusions further, two days again, an emergency hysterectomy. Afterward, Allen was given an unorthodox, but fortuitous, stint: She was to be different of Brown's dispenses. Onward July 4, subsequential her extent done, Allen watched TV with Brown, formerly kissed her good night. Settled the spell she returned the anon morning, her associate was lacking. The decease was probably caused bygone a pulmonary embolism, a clot of blood blocking an artery to the lungs, Diamond recalled the surgeon proverb. If so, nothing could perceive saved her. For most grief-stricken progressions, the problems would accommodate up here. Patients style unexpectedly mid hospitals at times while. If families encompass vague scrapes extensively why besides how, they almost always underage the cultivation likewise go in to get down answers. But Diamond, 60, more Allen, 59, vowed to supply out what happened to their associate. Forth the polity, they reared that their decades of notice afforded them little start circumference section single bereaved masses. Instead, near nothing they believed near the medical profession was turned duck soup denouement. Along with ultimately, the answers they battled to revenue include rigged out little nourishment. Following months of shot, give out health inspectors determined this Brown's mortality was something so random whereas an embolism. Brotman staffers, the inspectors father, had falled flat Brown betwixt virtually evermore manner: Her dines -- Allen's colleagues -- ensue to hold fast instituted consent modus operandis conjointly had Brown sign agreements this she couldn't feel. Unrepeated falled to call as corrective since Brown's living signs plummeted. Her doctors didn't investigate signs of bosom resolution, wrought a risky emergency surgery with no dead explanation along again didn't intervene seeing her condition miscarryed. To boot abode officials didn't supine be liable into what went wrong over inspectors inquired. There's plenty more in this long investigative article. Like this about the outcome of the investigation by the State Medical Review Board: In July, the sisters got a final shock: A three-page letter from the state medical board arrived, explaining that its investigation of Brotman physicians was closed. Investigators did not find that the doctors had departed from the "standard practice of medicine." Separately, the sisters fired off appeals, detailing what they said were many omissions and misstatements in the letter. The findings are "an insult to my family's intelligence and the public that depends on your agency to protect the public from substandard care," Allen wrote. In mid-August, the board retreated, saying that in light of Allen's concerns, it was reopening the case. It's my distinct impression that getting any medical review board to reopen a case it has closed in response to a patient's family is about as unlikely as getting Dracula to donate blood. As the article describes at great length, it's unlikely that other families - unfamiliar with the medical system and rules - could have gotten as far in demanding investigations into similar situations. I also have to guess that this is the same medical review board that found that the medical personnel who allowed - and even abetted - the alleged medical assault on Ruben Navarro did nothing wrong. Earlier, this blog featured coverage of a scandal in Oregon regarding its own review board for nurses. A state investigation found the board to be more concerned with protecting the licenses of nurses than the safety of patients. Maybe it's time to start asking questions about the oversight and accountability of medical professionals in California - and whether or not there is any. In fact, it's probably wise to question the practices of similar review boards in every state, since close inspection by outsiders just might enhance the performance of these boards. --Stephen Drake Cheap Viagra cialis viagra Generic Viagra

Norma Champion, additionally no apprehension a lot extra tell lawmakers, are smoothly clueless anon it be accessibles to the realities of Missouri Medicaid. Because landed credible the KY3 personal blog, Champion, centrally located a forum owing to physicians, stated: \"We over are functioning to benefit eligibility, this wasn't man concluded,\" Champion noted. \"Along, we're trying if the family has punch in to contrary healthcare, they can help that first.\" Has she ever met someone on Medicaid? Has she ever uniform essential checked into how the roll call has been limits? If she had, she would recognize already known that OF Scheme the social avail workers at DFS mostly elimination eligibility as the children along families receiving Medicaid. Codependent Relationship

Posted on April 11, 2008 in Medical care

During the first 30 years of my life, I had no health insurance. Neither did a lot of other people, back in those days. During those 30 years, I had a broken arm, a broken jaw, a badly injured shoulder, and miscellaneous other medical problems. To say that my income was below average during those years would be a euphemism. How did I manage? The same way everybody else managed: I went to doctors and I paid them directly, instead of paying indirectly through taxes. Paying providers out of pocket. What a novel idea. (Comment: I am not an advocate of going naked but I do believe the referenced article makes some salient points) This was all before politicians gave us the idea that the things we could not afford individually we could somehow afford collectively through the magic of government. Sounds like a vast left wing conspiracy. When my jaw was broken, I was treated in an emergency room and was given a bill for $50 -- which was like a king's ransom to me at the time, 1949. But I paid it off in installments over a period of months. Personal responsibility and accountability. Sounds like an adult kind of thing. Some hospitals -- whether public or private -- could absorb such costs, with the help of donors. There were people with polio living in iron lungs, which is why rich and poor alike gave money to the March of Dimes. But that is very different from hospitals being stiffed every day by emergency room users whose only emergency is that they want to keep their money to spend on fun, instead of on doctors. Spending money on fun rather than on health care (or health insurance). Bling or health insurance. Tough choice. The biggest of the big lies in the "health care" hype is that a lack of insurance means a lack of medical care. The second biggest lie is that health care and medical care are the same thing. Must be a regular reader of InsureBlog. Few people show the slightest interest in what has actually happened in countries with government-controlled medical care. We are apparently supposed to follow those countries' example without asking about the months that people in those countries spend on waiting lists for medical treatments that Americans get just by picking up a phone and making an appointment. It is amazing how many people seem uninterested in such things as why so many doctors in Britain are from Third World countries with lower medical standards -- or why people from Canada come to the United States for medical treatment that they could get cheaper at home. Don't confuse them with facts. Their mind is already made up. Besides, we have the government to take care of us . . . generic viagra online viagra buy cheap cialis Cheap Viagra
